Warehouse Forklift Operator/Picker

Summary        

Purpose of Position:

  • To operate an industrial forklift  to perform building material product handling assignments
  • To perform product handling  assignments (with industrial forklift or manually) by pulling orders  accurately for prompt shipment
  • To operate an Industrial forklift  to unload trucks or railcars
  • To verify receipt of incoming  shipments
  • To place incoming materials in  designated inventory slots
  • To comply with all Diamond Hill  Plywood Company established safety procedures      

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs safety check  on equipment prior to operating including battery, brakes, lift controls, and  fire extinguisher. Proceeds safely to assigned area to pull materials for  shipment
  • Identifies  products to be transported, using customer work orders, or inventory  receiving tallies
  • Operates forklift  to pull, move, and load products onto DHP or customer trucks for delivery.  Manually moves or loads products as necessary
  • Operates forklift  to unload railcars or trucks placing incoming products in designated  warehouse locations
  • Assist other  forklift operators and truck/tractor drivers in manually loading or unloading  products
  • Performs customer  service by assisting in manually loading or unloading (in the case of  returned products) customer trucks. Uses forklift when necessary to load or  unload customer trucks
  • May also prepare  orders to UPS shipments
  • Maintains  warehouse and grounds in safe, neat, and orderly manner
  • Perform other  related duties and assignments as required to meet the operational needs of  the warehouse

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education, Qualifications and Experience          

Minimum formal education: One to three years high school in order to perform  simple mathematical calculations, to read and understand written orders and  to prepare simple records and reports. Forklift Driver Certification is  required to operate forklift

Minimum job content knowledge: Must be dependable, and handle equipment safely and  responsibly. Some knowledge of building products is helpful. Requires valid  driver’s license; good eye/hand coordination and good motor skills

Minimum experience: Requires six months to a year previous job-related experience

Physical Demands          

Job requires frequent stooping, crouching, and  bending; and lifting of objects weighing up to and over 50lbs; and ability to operate forklift, company car, or truck. Ability to endure long periods of  exposure to outside extreme temperatures. Having good eye-hand-foot coordination.
