Branch Manager RALEIGH, NC

Summary        

Full profit & loss  responsibility for all business operations, both internal and external, for a  full- service wholesales building supply regional distribution facility.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Effectively manages the regional distribution center (RDC) and  staff to ensure the timely and profitable wholesale distribution of building  material—within the standards of the company’s financial budget; the  company’s operating and financial policies/procedures; and the company’s  service quality objectives—to fulfill the company’s business (sales,  marketing, finance, administration, safety, logistics and human resources)  objectives and goal.  

Complies with all Diamond Hill Plywood Company established business  operation, financial, logistics and safety procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily managing and scheduling of the branch’s personnel, trucks, and  equipment to ensure the proper selection, distribution, shipping, and  receiving of products at the branch in a productive and cost-efficient  manner.
  • Directly  responsible for (including profit & loss responsibility) the following  branch functions: maintenance, inventory control, purchasing, customer  service, credit/collections, product sales, security, and risk management.
  • Insures accuracy,  completeness, and full compliance with all company, local, state, and federal  procedures and regulations-such as federal & state employment law, OSHA,  DOT, workman’s compensation, etc.
  • Implements  required safety programs, safety meeting, makes inspections, and monitors  work behavior of employees to provide a safe work place in compliance with  OSHA and local/state regulations and company policies.
  • Works with vendors/suppliers  and customer base to create partnerships in the profitable sales and delivery  of building material products.  
  • Responsibility for  providing functional guidance and evaluation of sales and marketing  activities and for managing the outside sales team, the inside sales team and  the territorial sales manager.
  • Designs and  implements logistics strategies to profitably process and control product  movement and deliveries; to maximize inventory turns/earns; and to ensure the  efficient space utilization of the branch warehouse capacity.   
  • Implements methods  to improve associate productivity within established payroll and expense  budgets.
  • Responsible for  staffing needs of the distribution center, in compliance with established  manpower policies and procedures.
  • Makes decisions, recommendations and actions regarding:
    a) Internal operational procedures
    b) Budget and planning areas
    c) Priority establishment of inventory movement and turns
    d) Establishes work activity volume plans and personnel needs assessments
    e) Facility maintenance projects
    f) Fleet management
    g) Sales and marketing personnel and strategies
  • Regulates fuel purchases and usage.
  • Reviews all branch related expense reports and vehicle mileage reports; maintains accurate branch bank account; maintains past and present branch records/documents.
  • Perform other related duties and assignments as required to meet the profitable operational needs of the branch manager and the overall company.          

Supervisory Responsibilities  

This position is responsible for supervising all staff positions.  

Education, Qualifications and Experience          

  1. Minimum formal education: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or  equivalent of education and experience.  
  2. Minimum job content  knowledge: Knowledge of wide variety of building material  products; facility operations; planning & budgeting; financial statements  and human resources processes. Sound interpersonal skills and distribution  management background. Ability to manage people in high-stress situations.  Proven good written and oral communications skills.
  3. Minimum experience: Requires four to five years previous management  experience in a large wholesale type distribution center.

Physical Demands

Job requires frequent periods of intense mental  and visual application. Requires some travel. May require lifting of  twenty-five pounds.
